Job Description: 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Communicate with Regional Intake Coordinator (or local intake team) to ensure patient information is gathered accurately and as needed from all incoming patient transfers, hospital discharges and transients.
  • Ensure patient home facility has all appropriate paperwork necessary to dialyze incoming patient transfers, hospital discharges and transients and to then bill and collect for provided services. Communicate as necessary with facilities involved in patient care to achieve this.
  • Coordinate with regional and divisional insurance teams to resolve billing problems with insurance carriers and coordinate with the Manager of Patient Accounts and Collections.
Insurance Review
  • Review patient insurance information with Facility Administrator and Social Worker to streamline collection problems and develop payment arrangements and/or secure funding for patient without coverage, other financial problems as they occur.
  • Resolve billing problems with insurance carriers and coordinate with the Manager of Patient Accounts and Collections.
  • Track missing referral forms, purchase orders and authorizations for dialysis from the various insurance carriers.
  • Participate in cost containment programs.
  • Ensure accurate filing of insurance claims.
Communications and Customer Service Skills
  • Develop and maintain contacts in the local Social Security and Medicare Offices in order to troubleshoot eligibility problems and resolve entitlement issues.
  • Train facility staff on the importance of accurate data collection and how to complete the following forms: Patient Admission and Discharge, Medicare Screening, Insurance Verification, Application of Medicare Entitlement Due to ESRD, Financial Evaluation.
  • Work with patients, staff and co-workers to gather patient information and respond to any concerns with patient insurance appropriately.
  • Respond to questions from patients about financial resources or documented information.
Other Duties
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned or needed.
  • May be required to work overtime with limited or no notice.
  • Understand and follow DaVita patient and teammate policy and procedures.
  • Comply with DaVita policies and procedures in accordance with State and Federal Regulations for patient care and services. (Medicare, HIPAA, OSHA or other governing agencies).
  • Comply with State or Federal Regulations of the Injury Prevention and Safety Training Programs.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a medical office customer-service setting with demonstrated knowledge of processes involved in medical insurance coordination
  • Intermediate computer skills with a variety of software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, billing systems.
  • Ability to travel to various locations to meet with patients on an as-needed basis. Includes valid driver's license in state of residence and insurable driving record.
